Youth Team Beaten By Boston United
Pools Youth Team looked to be on course for victory against Boston United on Saturday afternoon - but a crazy twenty-minute spell turned the game on its head and left Coach Micky Barron furious.
The youngsters led 1-0 through Lee Mason's first half goal and had dominated the game until a last-ditch burst by the Pilgrims saw them hit back to win 4-1.
"We totally dominated the game for the best part of an hour," Barron explained.
"And then somehow we managed to concede four goals in twenty minutes, including two from set-pieces with which we struggled.
"We had enough chances in the first half to have put ourselves in a comfortable position but Boston made us pay for those missed opportunities."
Mason's goal came on sixteen minutes after a long throw from triallist Keiron Wrighton was flicked on by Tom Marron and at that point Pools looked strong favourites to go on and claim the points.
Soon after Anthony Wakefield saw his effort well saved, while the keeper also did well to deny Wakefield when he was sent through on goal by Jack Sharples.
Mason shot wide just before the break when he may have done better, and the striker was also denied on two occasions early in the second period.
However, Boston roared back to crash in four goals late in the game to condemn Pools to their second consecutive Youth Alliance League defeat.
