Nelson's Column: They'll Sock It To Them!
Michael Nelson is back with the latest installment in his Online Blog.
We find out what's been happening at the Training Ground lately and discover the big defender's views on the recent run of form.
Four wins in a row...
"The run we're on at the minute started out at Walsall after being 2-0 down at half time and from there we've obviously managed to get ourselves four wins. The last two have been pleasing for us because we have managed to keep clean sheets. The mood in the dressing room at half time and what the gaffer said was pretty similar at Walsall to how it was at Accrington a couple of seasons ago - maybe that had something to do with it. We went out and put on a good show in the second half and managed to pick the points up and carry it from there."
Two clean sheets...
"Although we got the results against both Walsall and then Huddersfield, which was very pleasing, I'd rather have the 1-0s than the 5-3 games any day. It is pleasing to know that we can just score one goal and still win the game. That gives the lads in front of us confidence that if they do score one, we are able to keep the back door shut.
"Everyone has been talking about it and every game that passed was another without a clean sheet and the numbers were going up. But now we have two clean sheets in a row and hopefully we can continue it in the games to come."
The Carlisle game...
"Carlisle were struggling - they've only won one in their last nine games so there was a bit of pressure on them to perform. They started out with 4-5-1 and so we had to be patient - there wasn't a great deal of chances and so it was important that when Browny got his chance he put it away. He did that and we kept the clean sheet and won the game."
The game with Leyton Orient...
"Saturday's match is going to be pretty similar to the Carlisle game - they will be under pressure from their own fans and they'll be wanting to put a good show on for them. We just have to go and do the same as we did at Carlisle and put on a professional performance to keep them out and hopefully nick a few goals at the other end."
Away trip entertainment...
I heard that Michael Mackay has been wondering what happened to his infamous Spiderman DVD. When he was on Pools World on Tuesday night, he said all he is left with is the box and he doesn't know where the disc has gone. Well, I think it may have got chucked out of the sunroof on one of the trips last season so I don't think he'll be getting that back!
"We are trying to get some more DVDs together for the two long away trips we've got coming up but I think if Spiderman does come along again, it'll be straight out of that sunroof!"
Sock it to them...
"The Club Captain and First Team Captain have had items of their clothing sabotaged at the Training Ground this week. Ritchie Humphreys put his hand in his sock to turn it the right way the other day and it went right up his arm! Then Sam Collins came in and went to put his foot in his sock and it went right the way up his leg!
"I think both lads know who it was but I won't be disclosing any details. Ritchie and Sam have warned that it is a long season ahead and there could well be repercussions."
