Reserves Suffer Late Defeat To Ryton

Posted on: Fri 17 Oct 2008

Pools Reserves suffered a disappointing defeat at Billingham Town as they were knocked out of the Durham County Cup by Northern League outfit Ryton.

The visitors went 1-0 up in the first half and could even have gone further ahead had it not been for a couple of fine Jan Budtz saves and a goal disallowed for offside.

However, Pools found their way back in to the game on the hour mark when Jonny Rowell's pinpoint cross from the left picked out the arriving Martin Young who finished neatly to make it 1-1.

Alan Power almost put Pools in front shortly afterwards when he drove forward dangerously but his shot flew just over the bar.

But it was Ryton who grabbed the winner in the end, when they made it 2-1 inside the final ten minutes.

Full Time: Pools 1 Ryton 2

More reaction to follow.
