From The Terrace With Phil Dunn
Foggy greetings Poolies as we look forward to tomorrow's trip into the unknown, a first ever outing for Hartlepool United at Leicester City and a trip to the Walkers Stadium, where I'm sure it'll be a CRISP day in the Midlands and we will see some BEEFY tackles going in!
As long as we put more goals in the BAG than them, we'll be ok!
Right, that's the potato-based snack tomfoolery out of the way and get onto the game. It'll be tough, in fact it'll be very tough to get a result down there but I feel after recent games that we CAN score and if we can score, then we can win.
Speaking of scoring, it's great to see some goals coming from our midfield and especially from Andy Monkhouse, who has shot to joint-top of the scorers chart with four.
What is also nice to see is the headed goals coming in from the winger. A wide player who can actually head the ball is such a rare thing..
Pools haven't had one since Paul Smith and it also helps when keeping the ball in play following goal-kicks out to the flanks. Keep it up, Andy, this is your season!
Joel Porter's superb strike at Elland Road the other night has got to be an early contender for Goal Of The Season, even though it's still September I doubt if his dipping 25-yarder could be bettered.
Even the Leeds fans were clapping! Joel is the king of the close-range goal but every so often he will come in with a quality strike like that one. Excellent stuff, and worth the entrance fee alone.
The 1200 Pools fans congregated in the corner of the former Premier League ground the other night deserve special praise too.
On the radio driving home the Leeds-based presenter took quite a few calls that mentioned the atmosphere at the match. but none of them even gave a passing mention to the fact that it was the Pools fans that were creating most of it!
I understand that nearly 400 tickets have been sold for Saturday's game so once again we will be travelling in numbers to a big stage let's keep the noise levels UP, and the hassles with stewards DOWN.
OK then, onto last week's quiz question about the double-penalty scorer against Oldham - it was of course Adam Boyd.
This week's question asks you to name the three Goalies who have appeared for Pools and The Foxes? Easy!
Enjoy The Game
