Pools have added a further player to their Youth Team squad with the news that Lee Mason has joined on scholarship terms.

The 17-year-old striker is rated an exciting prospect and made an impressive debut for the Reserves in their pre season encounter against Billingham Town.

Mason has previously had trial spells with Newcastle and Sunderland, but did enough while on trial with Pools Youth Team at the Milk Cup to earn a chance.

"The Milk Cup was a great experience for me and for the rest of the lads," said Mason, who has represented Northumberland at County level.

"There were loads of people there watching each game - there were even some Pools fans - so it was fantastic to be involved in.

"I'm glad to be at Hartlepool United now and hopefully I can get in amongst the goals in the coming season," he added.

Mason has followed a similar route to that taken by current Pools starlet James Brown, having played for Wideopen and Cramlington in the past, scoring 30 goals for the latter last term.
