Strong Squad Will Be Terrific Test - Wilson
Having now completed their week's training camp in Scotland, Danny Wilson and his players now have Newcastle United in their sights.
And the Pools boss is delighted to hear that Kevin Keegan is planning on bringing his senior players to The Vic for the game on Saturday (3pm kick off)
"It is music to our ears to hear that he is going to send a strong squad for the game.
"You will often find that the bigger clubs send shadow squads to play lower league opposition so it is fantastic that Newcastle and Kevin in particular will field a good side.
"That in itself will hopefully have the desired affects on the players and supporters - to pit our wits against some of the best of the Premier League will be a great occasion for everyone.
"The fans would not normally get to see those players in action so all in all it should be a terrific test for us and the lads are really looking forward to it."
And the Pools players go into the game with The Magpies on the back of a successful week's training in Scotland,
"The Scotland trip itself was excellent, we're delighted that we took that option this year," Wilson told hartlepoolunited.co.uk.
"The two games that we had were very competitive and probably more similar to the games we are going to encounter this year in the league.
"The training facilities there were great, for the time we were there, everything was spot on. The pitches were excellent, the food was fantastic and all in all it was a very very good exercise.
"The lads have all come away with everything we wanted them to have done."
Looking ahead to Saturday's big game and Wilson is likely to field a more settled side than was used in the games in Scotland,
"There will be changes but whether or not there will be the whole scale changes there were against Falkirk I'm not too sure.
"We don't want to make a lottery of the game but we do need certain players to get some minutes in."
