Pools put in a professional and assured display to take all three points in a comfortable 2-0 win over Yeovil Town this afternoon.
A first half Gary Liddle goal was capitalised on by an Andy Monkhouse strike after the break as Pools picked up a solid away victory at the end of a big week for the Club.
Pools sauntered through the first half here at Huish Park, largely unthreatened by a rather lethargic home side.
From the off, Pools looked comfortably in control; the 4-3-3 formation again working well as they kept Yeovil busy at the right end of the pitch.
Evan Horwood tested the hosts first as he fired in a pacy freekick from 20 yards which had both the wall and the keeper beat but scraped just wide of the post.
Antony Sweeney also went close with a powerful header which landed just the wrong side of the cross bar as Pools dominated.
Horwood and Gamble caused problems in the box with deep corners, but Yeovil were able to clear and Pools returned to mount another attack.
Paul Huntington saved the day for Yeovil as he cleared an Adam Boyd effort off the line; great work by James Brown down the left created a nice opening for Pools and, with cameos from Monkhouse and then Gamble, the ball was lifted over to Boyd inside the box.
The striker brought the ball down impressively on his chest before unleashing a volleyed blast at goal - Huntington saved on the line though to deny Pools a deserved opener.
There were more chances for Pools as Haslam and Monkhouse combined to set up Murray but his low strike was blocked by the shaky Yeovil keeper.
Pools did take a deserved lead in the 30th minute when another Horwood corner sailed deep into the area and found Gary Liddle waiting to head home to make it 1-0.
The hosts were stretched by Pools, who could easily have scored more than just one to show for their possession, throughout the first half.
The home crowd booed their players off the field at the break after a below-par display but Mick Wadsworth will have prepared his team for more of a battle from Yeovil in the second half.
And the hosts did look a little brighter from the off as Scott Flinders pulled off his first real save of the game to deny Sam Williams with a diving header.
But Pools were soon back on the attack with Joe Gamble sending a powerful blast at goal but the Irish midfielder saw his strike rise just over the bar.
With 54 minutes on the clock, Wadsworth's outfit doubled their lead and they did it in some style, Andy Monkhouse picked up the ball just inside the 'D' and sent a low shot fizzing across the penalty box and into the bottom corner of the net to make it 2-0 to Pools.
The second Pools' goal seemed to spark the home side into action as they went close on two occasions following Monkhouse's strike - both efforts going just wide of target.
And Yeovil went on to enjoy their best spell of the game; an acrobatic effort from Sam Williams was held by Flinders as the hosts tested Pools.
But Wadsworth's side dealt well with the pressure and slowed the tempo of the game as they worked hard to avoid a repeat of last weekend's match with Swindon Town.
With ten minutes on the clock Dean Bowditch found himself in a good shooting position but the Yeovil striker sent his shot from close range high over the bar.
Pools were worthy winners this afternoon and showed again their liking for the 4-3-3 formation.
Next up for Pools is a midweek Carling Cup clash with Premier League outfit Wigan Athletic and the players will go into that one full on confidence.
