Pools suffered a Huish Park horror show as they fell to another disappointing away defeat after an abject display against Yeovil Town.
Despite a bright start to the game, the opening goal for the Glovers arrived when Peter Hartley was harshly adjudged to have handled in the box and Gavin Tomlin's spot kick was clinical.
Antony Sweeney headed a half chance wide, while Roy O'Donovan also had an opportunity to score with his head but their misses proved costly as Gavin Williams curled home a superb free-kick off the post to make it 2-0 to the hosts.
James Brown's introduction at half time did little to inject some urgency in to Pools, and it was 3-0 four minutes after the restart when Gavin Williams clipped the ball over the advancing Scott Flinders and it bounced off the post and rebounded cruelly off the retreating Sam Collins and in to the net.
Gavin Williams saw red after a tangle with Andy Monkhouse with twenty-five minutes left but even with a man advantage Pools struggled to make headway and Dean Bowbitch wriggled too easily through the rearguard to slam home a fourth five minutes later.
Flinders made a brilliant save low down to his right from Sam Williams to spare further blushes for Pools on a forgettable afternoon in Somerset.
