Pools put in another professional and entertaining display to pick up all three points from this afternoon's clash with play-off chasers Colchester United.
After falling behind to an early goal, Pools dug in and goals from James Brown and Roy O'Donovan gave Chris Turner's men the lead going into the second half.
A late penalty kick hit home by O'Donovan sealed another valuable three points for Pools and made it four wins out of five.
The first half here at The Vic was action-packed as Pools set the fiery tempo of the game.
With James Brown looking back to his best and both Leon McSweeney and Roy O'Donovan in fine form, Colchester struggled to deal with the pace on offer from Pools for much of this opening period.
Pools looked bright from the off, with McSweeney causing problems down the right wing and he gave an early indication of what was to come when he slid a ball through the legs of Marc Tierney and into the area.
As was to be expected with Colchester, they relied heavily on the physical presence of their two big strikers to pressure Pools. And Sam Collins did well inside the first five minutes to clear the danger as Clive Platt was pressing.
With eight minutes on the clock, the visitors took the lead largely against the early run on play; a slip by Collins to the right of the area allowed Platt to capitalise and the big front man pushed on into the box, drawing Flinders out of his area.
Platt then squared the ball into the box for Ian Henderson who finished into an empty net to give Boothroyd's team the lead.
Pools did not slow their tempo and continued to press at every opportunity - grabbing the equaliser within three minutes of the opener.
More good work from McSweeney saw the winger exchange passes with O'Donovan, leaving Tierney in his wake as he ran on to send a perfectly-weighted ball into the box for James Brown who rose well to nod home.
Scott Flinders pulled off a great instinct save to deny Colchester a second when a good ball in from Tierney on the left was headed back into the area by Platt for Henderson who poked the ball goalwards from close range - Flinders though, continued in his recent run of solid form, blocking the effort with his feet and clearing the danger.
McSweeney sent another good ball into the box from the right only for Brown to miss out on the header this time to a solid block from Magnus Okungye.
As Pools enjoyed a great spell of pressure, Brown and Humphreys both tried their luck on goal and, in the 19th minute the pressure paid off as Turner's men took the lead.
Brown put the ball out left for Monkhouse who did well to carve out the space to pass on into the box to O'Donovan and the on-loan front man made it look easy as he turned well to fire a low shot past Ben Williams and into the bottom right corner of the net.
McSweeney continued to test from the right and both Brown and O'Donovan caused problems in and around the area throughout for the visitors.
Joe Gamble fed the ball into the path of McSweeney who turned to go for goal himself from twenty yards and his shot rattled the visiting defence who deflected it wide for a corner kick.
A corner from Gamble from the left found Sam Collins at the near post and his close-range glancing header pulled a block from Williams.
The high tempo of the game settled a little in the closing stages of the half but Pools remained strong going forward and Colchester relied increasingly on aimless balls into the area hoping their big front two could capitalise.
With the Pools back line holding tight under the aerial threat from Boothroyd's team, it was Turner's side that carried a deserved lead into the second half.
Colchester came out brightly after the break and put Pools under some early pressure by sending a series of testing balls into the box, and a close-range header from Lisbie hitting the woodwork as the visitors dug in.
At the other end, another great ball in from the in-form McSweeney caused problems again for the visitors but it arrived just a second ahead of Monkhouse and the winger could not make contact.
A great ball in from Prutton on the right wing was directed goalwards by Lisbie but his header went just wide of target, while Lisbie finished off a good move with a poor flicked effort which went wide of target.
Pools were really worked much harder after the break as there was a greater sense of urgency about Colchester and there were spells where Turner's men struggled to make it our of their own half.
O'Donovan tried to give Pools more of a cushion with a volley from the edge of the area but Williams collected.
Flinders put in another good block to deny Lisbie from close range as the visitors began to ask more questions of Pools at the back.
Pools won a penalty - only their second of the campaign - Ritchie Jones played the ball out to Leon McSweeney and once again the winger caused problems, jinking his way into the box.
This time though, the Irishman found his progress ended sharply under the challenge of sub Simon Hackney inside the box. The assistant referee was quick to react, raising his flag across his chest and awarding the spot kick to Pools.
Roy O'Donovan confidently stepped up to take it and smashed home the eighth goal of his loan period into the top of Williams' net to make it 3-1.
Scott Flinders saved well late in the game to deny Lisbie as Pools recorded anotherwell-deserved victory here at The Vic.
Another big win for Pools who now sit seven points above the drop zone.
