A great strike from Joel Porter brought Pools level with Cheltenham Town and gave Wilson's men a deserved share of the spoils here at Whaddon Road this afternoon.
While there was some hard work to be done at the back for Pools, the central pairing of Graeme Lee and Gary Liddle were strong and worked well to keep the hosts at bay for much of the game.
It was a bright start to the game from Pools as they pushed from the off, forcing Town keeper Shane Higgs into action within the first minute.
Joel Porter nicked possession and turned well twenty yards out on goal before firing in a pacy shot which caught the keeper off guard as it bounced right in front of him and it was left up to Gavin Caines to run back and put the ball out for a corner kick.
The hosts had their first shot on goal in the third minute when Alan Wright tried his luck from the edge of the area but his effort went wide of target.
These two early chances were a sign of what was to come in the remainder of the opening half as the play was end-to-end, with both teams looking dangerous going forward.
The only difference between the two sides came with the final ball- while Pools struggled to put together a clear-cut effort at goal despite some good pressure in and around the area, Cheltenham made their pressure count with a 40th minute opener.
The Pools' back line, well-marshalled by loan man Graeme Lee, who looked strong in the air at both ends, looked well-organised and worked well to deal with the danger of a pacy Cheltenham front line.
Steven Gillespie used his speed well down the right wing to nip in behind Humphreys before squaring a ball from the goal line which narrowly evaded the attentions of Andy Lindegaard waiting to tap home and Godwin Antwi was on hand to clear.
Jan Budtz pulled off a great save to deny Steve Brooker with a point-blank header and then recovered brilliantly to kick clear from Alex Russell's follow-up.
At the other end, Pools were giving the home defence a real test too as they pushed forward in numbers and lifted a succession of crosses into the box. But, despite hard work from Thompson and the hard-working Barker, there was no route through for Wilson's men.
Graeme Lee, who impressed on his debut, found himself with two of Pools' best chances of the opening half - his first came from a Humphreys corner from the left and the big defender rose well to node in a header which was well-held by Higgs.
When Alan Thompson whipped in another strong corner from the left, it was Lee who again got up highest and his powerful header from the far post but this time his effort was cleared off the line by Andy Gallinagh.
But the hosts made the push forward that counted in the fortieth minute when the ball was played in to Andy Lindegaard twenty yards out on goal. The winger hit a great effort at goal and, although Budtz seemed to get both hands on the effort, the ball squeezed past the big keeper and Cheltenham took a 1-0 lead into the break.
The second half started well for Wilson's men with a deserved equaliser coming in the 53rd minute and it arrived in some style. Joel Porter picked up the ball in the left channel and made his way in field to the edge of the area, skipping past Caines on his way to lift a lovely curling ball up past Higgs and firmly into the top left corner of the net.
The game continued in much the same vain as the first as both sides pushed on in search of a winner - Godwin Antwi put in a great challenge to deny Gillespie in a dangerous position in the box while Jan Budtz pulled off another top save to tip a Russell free kick round the post just as it looked to be edging into the bottom right corner.
Tom Craddock was introduced for his debut just after the hour mark and he made an instant impression with his strong running and pace. In fact, the young striker almost got off to the perfect start when he forced his way past Gallinagh to go in one-on-one with Higgs in the Town goal only to lose out to a great block from the home keeper.
And, as was the case for much of the second period, Cheltenham made their way straight up the other end of the field and it was the impressive Gillespie who provided the threat as he flashed a ball right across the face of goal only to see it scrape the bar as it went wide of the area.
Minuets later and the pacy Gillespie was at it again - this time he fizzed a great ball low across the face of goal but fortunately for Pools there was nobody there to poke it home.
As the hosts enjoyed a strong spell of pressure, Jan Budtz pulled off another to-drawer save to deny them a winner - the big stopper threw himself full-stretch to push a Russell header out at the top right corner of the goal.
Substitute Scott Brown looked set to hit home with his first touch of the game but as he ran into the area from the left he struck a good low shot which beat the Pools keeper but scraped wide of the far post.
But Pools held firm and tried hard to use the break to their advantage, with Tom Craddock looking the most likely outlet with his strong running up front.
A great ball over the top from Graeme Lee almost sent Craddock through on goal late in the game but a good header by Gallinagh just tipped the ball out of the path of the Pools' forward and Cheltenham were able to clear as the game looked set to end all square.
And so Pools deservedly took a share of the spoils from this entertaining clash at Whaddon Road, with some strong performances to build on.
Next up for Wilson's men is a Friday night clash with Northampton Town at Victoria Park when Pools will be looking to make it another winning night at The Vic.
