Pools made it three successive victories for the first time since August with a much-deserved 2-1 victory over Huddersfield Town.

Goals from Sam Collins and Michael Mackay were enough to take all three points for Wilson's men, who put in another confident and entertaining display.

With kick off this evening coinciding with a random hail storm inside The Vic, the opening exchanges were scrappy as both teams worked hard to adapt to the poor conditions.

And, although it was the visitors who settled into their stride quickest, Pools soon showed their current confident mood as they upped the pace of the game and took a 1-0 lead into the break.

Huddersfield Town were first to try their luck on goal when the pacy Malvin Kamara made his way down the right wing before whipping a teasing ball into the area which was just nicked fro the head of Andy Booth by a great interception from Michael Nelson.

As the pace of the game increased, Town got forward again - this time it was Chris Brandon on the opposite wing who burst forward into the box before unleashing a low drive at goal that Arran Lee-Barrett got down well to block.

But when Pools found their footing in the game, they looked the stronger of the teams and, with the two wingers supporting Porter and Mackay up front, a goal looked on the cards.

Good interplay between Andy Monkhouse and Michael Mackay saw the winger poke a ball through into the area for the lively striker but Mackay's shot was well held by Matthew Glennon in the visiting goal.

Minutes later and a rejuvenated Joel Porter rolled a ball square on the edge of the box for the arriving Antony Sweeney but his low effort was deflected wide as Pools really began to test the visitors.

And then, with 29 minutes on the clock a corner kick from Jamie McCunnie on the right sailed into the area where the ever-impressive Sam Collins was on hand to rise highest and nod home his second goal in as many games to give Pools a deserved lead.

Wilson's men could well have gone 2-0 up before the break when great determination by Joel Porter to nick possession from Robbie Williams inside his own area. And, when porter unselfishly squared the ball for strike partner Mackay in space, he looked set to strike it home. However, on this occasion, the forward hit his effort first time with his left foot and wide of target.

Huddersfield Town did have a couple of chances in the first half - none more so than when Robbie Williams whipped a free kick in from the right for Luke Beckett at the far post but, with an equaliser looking set to arrive, Beckett got underneath the ball and put it high over the bar.

But it was Pools who ended the half on top and were well worthy of their halftime lead after another confident and dominant display.

And Wilson's men came out after the interval firing on all cylinders - more great work from Porter within minutes of the re-start tested the visiting defence when he fought off the attentions of the Town defender to fire in low at goal from a tight angle but a good save from Nathan Clarke put the ball out for a corner kick

It took Pools just five minutes of the second half to make it 2-0 and it came in the end for Michael Mackay who finally got his just rewards for some tireless running and enthusiasm.

With Porter once again causing problems inside the area for Town, the Aussie forward broke into space before putting a ball square for Sweeney, who ran right to the by-line before trying his luck from an extremely narrow angle.

Sweeney's ball rolled right across the goal-line before being cleared by the defence, but with neither Glennon or his defender able to clear the danger, the ball rolled back to Sweeney who lifted it back across the box for Mackay who calmly headed home to make it 2-0.

Credit to Huddersfield Town though and they refused to give in - Lee-Barrett was forced into making a save from an Andy Booth point-blank header and with 64 minutes gone, the visitors hit back.

Chris Brandon lifted a really well-taken corner in from the left which flew into the box with pace and defender Clarke reacted well to get up highest and power a header down into the bottom left corner of the goal.

Despite the goal though, Pools continued to dominate and went close on several occasions to restoring the two-goal lead.

Michael Mackay received the ball in the centre of the box, took it down on hischest before blasting a powerful punt at goal, which was well-saved by Glennon who got up well to tip the ball over the bar.

And, with Wilson's men throwing everything forward and Porter, Mackay and Sweeney all looking desperate to add to the goals tally, Pools came agonisingly close to adding a third.

Another good ball from Porter into the box found Michael Mackay central to the goal but, with the young forward scuffing his shot, the ball rolled out to Antony Sweeney arriving on the right. Sweeney smashed the ball at goal only to see his effort crash against the crossbar, bounce on the goal line and cleared out of the danger area.

A run by Andy Monkhouse into the box was halted when he was bundled to the ground by Robbie Williams but referee Mr Russell waved away all appeals for a penalty kick.

Late in the game, some impressive fancy footwork by Mackay just inside the box saw him make his way past the defender and towards target but when he got into space to really fizz a ball across the face of goal, it just escaped the attentions of Sweeney to go out of play at the far post.

Despite something of a frantic end to the game, Pools were deserving of the three points and will go into Saturday's game at Tranmere Rovers full of confidence.
