Yeovil Town came from behind to beat Pools 3-1 on a blustery afternoon at Huish Park.

Danny Wilson's men took an early lead through Michael Mackay and looked set for another promising display but two goals inside four first-half minutes from the hosts game the impetus firmly to Yeovil, who made it 3-1 late in the second period.

Pools got off to the perfect start once again this afternoon with the opening goal coming inside the first ten minutes of play.

Despite the changes to the eleven that won so impressively in midweek, Wilson's men started with the same upbeat tempo and caused the hosts problems in the opening minutes.

There was an early chance for Michael Mackay to open the scoring when Eddie Nolan lifted a pin-point cross into the area but the ball caught the striker off-guard and his header went wide of target.

But with just nine minutes on the clock, Mackay got his goal and in some style; Ian Moore played the ball square for the lively striker who turned inside his man before curling a classy strike into the top right hand corner of Steve Mildenhall's net - an early contender for Goal of the Season and a great start for Pools.

Although Wilson's men looked dangerous early on, Yeovil Town had pressure of their own, with Paul Warne and Marcus Stewart their main threats down the wings.

Warne pulled a great save out of Jan Budtz, who reacted impressively to smack his shot from distance over the bar.

But there was a big turning point in the game which swung things firmly in the direction of Yeovil Town; an aerial challenge between Godwin Antwi and Marcus Stewart saw the Pools defender forced off the field for treatment.

And, with Pools down to ten men for around ten minutes of the first half as something seemed to be holding up Antwi's treatment, Yeovil took full advantage with two goals inside four minutes.

Town's equaliser came from a corner kick from the left which was headed into the back of the net by skipper Terry Skiverton and, despite calls from Jan Budtz, who appeared to be under some pressure during the kick, the goal stood.

Just minutes later and the host really made Pools pay when Warne lifted a teasing ball into the area and Marcus Stewart arrived at the far post to head past Budtz to make it 2-1 to Yeovil and give Wilson's men more work to do.

When Antwi arrived back on the field shortly after the half-hour mark, Pools were soon back into their stride, looking for a way back into a game that was once firmly in their hands.

Ritchie Humphreys was busy on the left wing and he put a great ball into the area which James Brown touched towards goal but Mildenhall threw himself into a challenge with Moore to hold out.

Humphreys put a great free kick into the area from 30 yards but a great save from the home keeper saw the hosts retain their lead going into the second half.

The hosts, who were a big threat going forward, continued to pressure after the break but, on many occasions found the Pools' defence and most noticeably Godwin Antwi difficult to beat. The big defender was strong in the air for Pools at times, despite his head injury.

Jan Budtz and Eddie Nolan combined well to keep out James Walker and sub Richard Barker got stuck into his duties in defence, marking the threat of Skiverton from set pieces.

Warne saw a shot from the right of the area flash right across the face of goal as Pools hung on within touching distance of the game.

And Pools came desperately close to drawing things level when Robbie Elliott fired a stinging ball across goal which Richard Barker met with a good header, but unfortunately his header went narrowly wide of target.

Lloyd Owusu came on and made certain of the win for Yeovil Town, he ran through one-on-one with Jan Budzt and, although the Pools' keeper pulled off a great stop to push the ball wide of goal, it was Owusu who reacted quickest as he got up and slotted the ball into the back of the net.

The game petered out for Pools and it was an uncomfortable ending to a game which had promised so much.

Danny Wilson will now be hoping that some of Pools' injury problems clear up in time for next Saturday's League One clash with Crewe at The Vic.
