Pools fell to a disappointing defeat at Huish Park as Yeovil ran out comfortable winners against MArtin Scott's shot-shy side.
It was a quiet start to the game and both sides took time to settle into their stride but it was the hosts who found their form first as they began to test the Pools' rearguard. Phil Jevons, who was a threat for Yeovil Town all afternoon, had the first chance when he fired a low shot through the area but Dimitrios Konstantopoulos got down well to collect.
With Steve Thompson's men upping their pressure, they had a penalty appeal rejected after David Poole looked to have been felled in the area and Pools had more fortune when defender Scott Guyett lifted his effort from close range over the bar when scoring looked the easier option.
But the hosts maintained their pressure, with Jevons and Matt Harrold creating problems for the Pools' defence and they capitalised on this pressure just before the half hour mark when the pair combined for the opener.
Harrold broke down the right hand side, beating his man before whipping a cross into the area for Jevons, who beat Darren Williams in a challenge for the ball before unleashing a powerful shot on goal which rose over the Pools' defence and dipped just beyond Konstantopoulos and into the top left hand corner of the net.
Once again though, conceding the goal seemed to spark Pools back into the game as they began to create some fluid moves to give the home defence some problems of their own to deal with.
Ritchie Humphreys and Ben Clark were the main instigators as they looked to carve out some openings in a tight midfield and Pools enjoyed the majority of possession as the half came to a close.
Martin Scott made a change going into the second forty-five as Jon Daly replaced Matty Robson -this saw Humphreys return to left back and Chris Llewellyn take up the space on the left wing - and the change seemed to boost Pools further as they upped the tempo of their game.
Michael Maidens did well to create an opening for himself in a sea of defenders to fire a shot at goal, but his effort edged over the bar. Moments later and Gavin Strachan tests the home defence with a powerful low free kick which forced a good save out of Stephen Collis.
Another Strachan free kick found Nelson in good space inside the six-yard area but the big defender's momentum saw him direct the ball just wide of the near post.
The home side then quickly picked the ball up and broke down the left hand side. Poole showed great pace down the wing to evade the Pools' defence and whip a teasing ball into the area which found the lively Jevons in space and the striker made no mistake to fire the ball past Konstantopoulos and into the bottom right corner of the net, making it 2-0 to the hosts.
The introduction of James Walker just after the hour mark lifted Pools once again as the big striker caused some early problems for the home defence. The Charlton Athletic man did well to beat his markers down the left wing and the played a great ball across the face of goal which just escaped the arriving forwards. Walker then found Eifion Williams with a good ball but the striker's cross into the area was just too far ahead for Jon Daly to hit home.
The big striker then hit an effort of his own but Guyett blocked bravely as Pools struggled to really threaten the home goal despite some promising possession.
And, although Pools looked more of a threat after the break, it was the hosts who looked most dangerous going forward, with both Jevons and Harrold testing Konstantopoulos from close range - Harrold also saw his low drive crash off against the post before Micky Barron was forced to clear his second effort off the line.
Once again, Pools struggled to find that cutting edge to capitalise on any possession they had and Martin Scott's side will be working hard to put things right ahead of next Saturday's game against Tranmere Rovers at The Vic.
