With the World Cup fast approaching, Tesco staff in Hartlepool are preparing to kick off a host of football-themed fundraising activities to support children with cancer.

And H'Angus the monkey was only too happy to help out and show his support for the campaign, which is raising money for children's cancer charity CLIC Sargent - Tesco Charity of the Year 2010.

Staff are organising a variety of activities in June - from World Cup sweepstakes to beat the keeper competitions - to help Tesco and CLIC Sargent achieve their goal of raising £5million to fund specialist children's cancer nurses.

Every day in the UK around 10 families are told that their child has cancer and CLIC Sargent Nurses allow children with cancer to spend more time at home and less time in hospital by co-ordinating all of their care.

Former England striker and CLIC Sargent patron Gary Lineker said: "The World Cup is the greatest show on earth and this year's competition is sure to grab everyone's attention, whether they're a football fan or not.

"CLIC Sargent is a wonderful charity and it's fantastic that Tesco staff and customers are focusing their fundraising efforts this summer around the World Cup. Everyone's sure to have a ball!"
