Danny Wilson was left to rue a late Bas Savage goal that gave Brighton all the points from bad-tempered game at Victoria Park.

And the Pools boss admitted that his ten-man side could have prevented defeat having got themselves back level with a Richard Barker penalty four minutes from time.

"I don't think we helped ourselves in a couple of situations today," admitted Wilson when speaking to Pools World after the game.

"We had a man sent off and then conceded a soft goal near the end but overall it was a fantastic effort from the lads.

"To get ourselves back in the game against a talented Brighton side speaks volumes about the lads but maybe we got a bit greedy after that and some sloppiness crept in."

Wilson revealed he had no complaints with the sending-off of Willie Boland after the midfielder lashed out in the first half.

"The referee had no choice - Willie kicked out and you can't do that; he'll suffer for that because he won't be in the team for three game now."
