Armann Bjornsson and Peter Hartley were at Victoria Park on Wednesday afternoon to take part in a 'Show Racism The Red Card' Roadshow.
Over 90 youngsters from Clavering and Jesmond Road Primary Schools were joined in the Victoria Lounge by the Pools duo and Show Racism The Red Card's professional football coaches Gary Bennett and Curtis Fleming.
The pupils were shown a special video featuring Gary Lineker and Gabby Logan, as well as high-profile players such as Didier Drogba, Thierry Henry, Ryan Giggs and Samuel Eto'o.
It showed the effects of racism on those involved and also gave suggestions on how we tackle the problem and eradicate racism from football and everyday life.
As well as Bjornsson and Hartley, ex Newcastle players Olivier Bernard and John Anderson joined the panel as children were allowed the chance to ask questions.
"It was really interesting to be part of and hopefully it raised awareness about the effects of racist behaviour," Hartley commented afterwards.
"I've not seen racism in evidence at Victoria Park either as a player or supporter but we must all work together to ensure it continues to have no place in the sport."

Armann Bjornsson revealed that he had not been subjected to racist abuse, but admitted that he had seen it happen during a game in Spain.
"When I was playing for a Norwegian club we played in Coruna and there was some abuse being given to our players.
"It's not acceptable and I'm happy to be able to help spread that word with the young people here in Hartlepool."
Show Racism The Red Card is an anti-racist educational charity which uses professional footballers as role models to encourage people to challenge prejudice and promote tolerance.
