Martin Young went back to his old school for a special presentation on Wednesday morning as Pools donated their Dallas Cup kit to Manor College of Technology.

Former pupil Young - who signed his first professional contract at Victoria Park this summer - went along with Director of Youth Terry Mitchell to hand over the strips during morning assembly.

"This gesture underlines the first class relationship between the Club and the School," commented Head Teacher Alan White.

"I think the bond we have is unique - it's unlike any other link between a football club and a school in the entire country.

"We're delighted that Martin came back to present the kits to us - we're very proud of his achievements since leaving.

"He's got 11 A to C grades at GCSE so he's a perfect example to youngsters who want to get in to sport as he has something to turn to if it doesn't work out for any reason."

Captain of the school's Under 16 side and former Centre of Excellence player Zac Healey formally received the kit which will go straight in to use next term.

"We managed to get to the semi-final wearing these kits in the Dallas Cup," said Mitchell.

"But hopefully they'll bring even greater success to the teams at Manor College."
