We are reminded of the loss - in tragically similar circumstances - of - the then - 21 year old - Brighton star 'of great potential' - Barrie Rees. Writing in "Seagulls - the History of Brighton and Hove Albion" - Tim Carder and Roger Harris write - "The whole town was shocked by the tragedy ... it was one of the saddest days in Albion's history." Whilst I never had the pleasure of seeing Michael play personally, I know many who have and all say what a fantastic player he was developing into. On a footballing front he will obviously be remembered for the wonder strike against Huddersfield. It seems so tragic that millions of young men each year try to aspire to play at this level of football yet only a very fortunate few have the talent to make it and then something like this occurs. It puts our day to day petty problems in perspective.

I had no idea what had happened on Friday until my brother told me that he had heard that the game had been called off. I checked on the Swansea City website, and found out why. What an awful thing to happen. I had been thinking about the Hartlepool fans all morning. The long journey down to South Wales. I echo the one minute applause tribute I was at the recent Walsall match in which a youngster of thiers passed away and its a huge fitting tribute.
