It seems so tragic that millions of young men each year try to aspire to play at this level of football yet only a very fortunate few have the talent to make it and then something like this occurs. It puts our day to day petty problems in perspective.

I was gutted to hear of the tragic death of Michael Maidens, such a waste of a young, promising life. While I didn't know Michael personally, I always rated him as a tricky, skillful type of player who definitely had a future in the game. I will miss the opportunity to watch Michael in a Pools shirt, but that is all secondary now. I just feel terribly sad for all his family and friends. Having lost a friend in a similar way a few years ago, I can understand how they must be feeling right now so I would just like to send on my deepest sympathy to the Maidens' family at this tragic time.
