Looking back to last Saturday's game against Colchester United and to be honest, I thought the ref was going to give another penalty just to give their guy his hat-trick. I said to him during the game that he should give him another chance! Seriously though, they had their game plan and they set out their stall and knew what they wanted to do and they did it really well.
There was no one in their team under six foot and they made it difficult for us but we will learn from that. We take something from what we come up against every week and learn from it. And when we come to play Colchester again, we will be ready for that and it won't happen again.
The Manager did come out after the game and say he might make some changes for Saturday's game with Walsall and that will definitely get the best out of the players in training. We haven't been doing badly in training prior to this, we just didn't play well at Colchester United.
They stuck to their game plan and obviously the referee gave them three penalties which was not great but obviously the Manager has made the decision to make changes. Obviously nobody wants to be dropped so we have to do as much as we can to make sure we stay in the team because once you are out of the team, it can be difficult to get back in.
Looking ahead to Saturday's game with Walsall and I think I might stick my neck out again and say we will win it. It worked the last time I said that ahead of the Gillingham game and I think it will this time.
Training has been more focussed this week, we've been looking at exactly what we want to do in the game. We have learned from the Colchester game and the Burnley game earlier in the season - it is important to get balls into the box really to cause problems, get penalties or scrappy goals. Like I've said, we're taking bits and bobs from every game we have had and we're learning from it.
I'd like to welcome our new signing Julian Cherel to the Club. Julian has been training with us for the past four week and I've been taking him into training and I have to say he is the most inquisitive man ever. Everything we see he asks me for the word in English - I feel like an English teacher! So he's learning English with a slight Irish twist.
Julian is a good centre half, he's good and strong and reads the game well. He's got a great attitude and obviously with Ben Clark out injured, Julian will be good cover for him and hopefully his time with the Club goes well for him.
Away from the pitch and the lads have been out and about in the community recently doing lots of presentations and appearances around the town.
This is something that we are all happy to do to be part of the Club. We want to get as many people as we can into the Club and through the gates and we know a good way of doing that is to get out into the community.
To be fair we get a good bit of notice from the Club and we all know what we are supposed to be doing so it's good.
I've been asked about some emails that have come into the Club for me from some ladies calling themselves the 'Behan Babes'. They might be a bit long in the tooth but they're still my babes!
When I was at Cork and was working my way up the ranks, we hadn't beaten Shelbourne in years and then when I started to make my way into the First Team, I scored a goal in the Cup - it was a left footer from 30 yards -and when beat them 1-0. We then went on to beat them every other game after that and they decided to form a Fan Club called the 'Behan Babes'.
There are only two of them but it's still a Fan Club!
I think if you look on Bebo there is a group called the Denis Behan Appreciation Society that I think they might have had something to do with as well. They have been following me for a while now - they're great ladies.
All the best until next time!
Denis
