Reserve Team boss Micky Barron came off the bench to score the winner as a Pools XI beat Consett 1-0 at Belle Vue on Saturday afternoon.
Barron was among the subs due to the low number of players available following Friday night's friendly with Sunderland as well as a Youth Team fixture at Blackburn.
The hosts offered stubborn resistance all afternoon though Kerry Hedley came close to breaking the deadlock for Pools early in the second half when he drew a fine save from home keeper Pete Jameson.
With the game seemingly heading towards stalemate, Barron replaced Greg Rutherford and within minutes got clear and sent a delicate chip over Jameson from the edge of the box to divide the teams.
Barron retired from playing in 2008 and in his 374 First Team appearances managed just four goals, his last coming in a 1-1 draw with Wycombe Wanderers in October 2003.
Consett included former Pools striker Michael Mackay in their line-up, while Colin Larkin - released by the Club in the summer - was named in the Pools XI as he maintains his fitness.
Full Time: Consett 0 Pools XI 1
Pools: McHugh, Richards, Holden, Wright, Tuck, Rowbotham, Hedley, Hawkins, Larkin, Rutherford (Barron), Luscombe.
