John Hughes is hoping to line-up a practice match at the training ground this weekend to give some of his players the chance to get more minutes under their belts.

Pools are without a league game on Saturday because scheduled opponents Bournemouth are playing in the FA Cup but Hughes has revealed there will be no weekend off for his squad.

And while the Pools boss has been happy with the attitude to work on the training ground, he is not prepared to let the tempo drop despite there being no fixture.

"The effort and commitment in training has never been in doubt," he told Pools Player

"Anything you put on for them they are very receptive too and you can see them coming off after today and it's been a good, hard session.

"We've not got a First Team game this weekend but we'll try to organise a friendly and get some game time for the players who need it.

"It had been hoped we'd be able to play Newcastle Under 21s but that's not possible now so we'll organise something against another good north east team.

"We have a Reserve game next week too so it's important that the players that haven't got the ninety minutes recently are kept going and get competitive football because there have been a few knocking on the door."
