Two goals from Jonathan Franks and another from Scott Fenwick earned Pools another big three points against Plymouth Argyle this afternoon.
After a slow start to the game, it was Pools who scored first this afternoon and with just 7 minutes having been played.
Aaron Tshibola burst away powerfully down the left hand side and flighted a cross into the box which found its way to the far post where Johnathan Franks rammed it low under Luke McCormick. Scott Fenwick went close to making it 2-0 as Pools continued to press; a good ball in from Aaron Tshibola on the left found the striker at the near post but he was denied on the line by keeper Luke McCormick. Fenwick met the following corner to shoot in from inside the box but this time his shot went over the bar. Pools were looking bright going forward, with Fenwick proving a handful an Rakish Bingham offering a real option up front. Tshibola and Woods were both strong in the middle again and Moore’s side were more than holding their own. But with 30 minutes on the clock, Pools slipped up at the other end and allowed the visitors through on goal. A Reuben Reid flick on found Ryan Brunt who pushed on to send a low shot past Flinders and into the back of the net to level the scores. Pools went close to re-taking the lead shortly after the equaliser as Franks sent a lovely ball across the face of goal which went all the way through to the busy Fenwick at the far post. He poked at goal but again was denied by McCormick who just kept it off the line. It was an entertaining first half, with decent play from both sides but it was Pools who probably edged things in terms of chances and possession but the two teams went in level. It was Plymouth who looked brightest just after the break and there was a nervy start as Pools scrambled to clear the danger from their own box. But with 54 minutes on the clock, Pools burst forward to re-take the lead; good work by Fenwick and Woods in the build-up saw the ball fall for Franks just inside the box and he unleashed a powerful strike which beat McCormick to find the bottom corner and restore his side’s lead. Pools went close again just minutes later when a cross in from Fenwick on the left following a cleared corner picked out Dan Jones and he tried his luck with a low drive that edged just wide of the post. The third goal did arrive for Pools and it was nothing more than the scorer deserved; Michael Duckworth burst through to feed Scott Fenwick and the in-form striker got his just reward as he fired home to make it 3-1 to Pools. Plymouth made it a nervy finish as substitute Olly Lee nodded home from close range to make it 3-2 with just minutes remaining. But Pools were worthy winners in the end as they made it two successive home victories and picked up another crucial three points.
